The Buddha In The Attic by Julie Otsuka

Monday night was book club, and this month our group is reading the selection below.

Buddha Attic

The Buddha in the Attic

By Julie Otsuka

This is the tale of Japanese Picture brides immigrating to America in the early 1900’s, and is Otsuka’s second novel published by Knopf Publishing Group in the US.

“This is a small jewel of a book, its planes cut precisely to catch the light so that the sentences shimmer in your mind long after turning the final page. With The Buddha in the Attic, Julie Otsuka has developed a literary style that is half poetry, half narration – short phrases, sparse description, so that the current of emotion running through each chapter is made more resonant by her restraint.”

Elizabeth Day, The Guardian 2012

If you are of a mind to get a copy its approximately 129 pages in length, and as it’s not a common topic, you might find a hidden gem.

Come on along and read it!  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Readin!

Scott
